Have you ever said or reacted a certain kind of way out of anger at the moment, but later on realized you could've handled the situation better? Have you ever let out that ugly cry and at the moment you thought things couldn't get any worse...then you realize it's not even that bad, you can get through this,?

Whether we realize it or not, our emotions are a strong characteristic that drives our daily lives. Often times, our emotions lead us to make a really good or really bad decision without thinking twice about the bigger picture at that moment. When our emotions let us react too quickly, the outcomes of those decisions tend not to always be the best because we weren't thinking with a clear and rational mind.

Always keep your end goal(s) in mind

Use those tough times as motivation and come up with a rational plan for how to make your situation better to get you where you want to be; always remember ultimately why you're doing what you're doing. You may even have to take time to sit, brainstorm, and write your plan and goals out. Some distractions and unexpected issues may come along the way, but it is important to keep your end goal(s) in mind as a reminder at all times.

It's okay to feel uncomfortable, but it's all about your recovery

Remember that you are capable of letting your emotions control you, but only if you allow them.

You may feel a certain type of way, but not fully understand why or what made you feel that way. You may not wake up in the best mood, but you still have the rest of the day to change that and make the best of it. If you find yourself getting angry and starting to lash out, you can choose to reel it in and not let that anger, anyone, or anything get the best of you.

It's important to actually acknowledge the fact that you don't feel like yourself at that moment, instead of suppressing it because it can, and will, get worse as time goes by. It may lead you to turn to unhealthy coping skills, such as excessive eating or alcohol abuse. Feeling uncomfortable, speaking on how you feel, and using effective action is what leads to your growth and removes the emotional aspect.

Change your scenery to help you think clearly

If you know being in a certain area(s) or around certain people is a trigger for you, remove yourself and stay away; go for a walk or do something physically stimulating to start you off. If you're feeling nervous or anxious about being around new people or in a new space, remind yourself of why you're entering that new space. Don't let the fear of the unknown hold you back from taking a chance that you know in your gut is worth taking.

Not saying that it will be easy, but you have to keep that bigger picture and your goals in mind, and not let your emotions get the best of you. If you start feeling like you're losing yourself or your focus, change your surroundings and go somewhere where you can think more clearly. If you're one of those friends who give advice, look at your situation from a different perspective and ask what advice would you give if the roles were reversed and you were your friend or loved one.

Think of and do things that make you happy

Thinking and remaining positive is key in keeping your sanity.

If meditating makes help you find peace and makes you happy, then do it! If hanging out or going out to eat with your friends makes you happy, then do it! If vibing out and having your own mini-concert in your room makes you happy, then do it!

Continue striving greatness

At times when we're not in the best mood, we tend to let our emotions get the best of us and do things that keep us in that mood. Ultimately, if you keep allowing yourself to stay stuck, not much will change or get accomplished. Always remember to keep the bigger picture and your end goals in mind; use it as motivation.

It is vital to do self check-ins, which allows you to be mentally stronger and ensure you're emotionally balanced. Allowing yourself to feel uncomfortable will help you gain the confidence to have a rewarding feeling of accomplishment, especially when you thought you couldn't do something and then end up actually doing it. Do things that make you happy and don't live your life trying to conform to societal pressures.

REMEMBER: YOU'RE IN CONTROL OF HOW YOU LET YOUR EMOTIONS CONTROL YOU, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
